The Election Commission is deliberating on suitable dates for the long-awaited local government elections, ensuring they do not interfere with ongoing examination schedules.
The discussions, chaired by Election Commission Chairman R.M.A.L. Ratnayake during a meeting on November 27, said the urgency of scheduling the elections in compliance with a Supreme Court directive to hold them promptly.
While no date has been finalized, the Commission is expected to reconvene in the coming days to make a definitive decision. Preparations for the election process are already underway, the Chairman said.
