The Ministry of Power and Energy has received a report on renewable energy projects prepared by a government-appointed committee.
Ministry Secretary, Professor Udayanga Hemapala, says that the report, which reviewed around 40 projects, includes key recommendations for implementation.
The recommendations will be submitted to the Cabinet for approval, with further action dependent on their decision.
Professor Hemapala also said that, under the new Electricity Act, projects must begin before June 2025 or they will be invalidated. The ministry estimates these projects could generate over 250 megawatts of electricity.
