The Ministry of Defense has announced a new policy limiting the issuance of firearms for self-defense to one firearm per individual, following a comprehensive survey on civilian firearm distribution and usage.
Exceptions to this rule will require a detailed security analysis, with the final decision resting solely with the Ministry of Defense, according to the announcement.
Preliminary findings from the ongoing survey revealed that over 1,500 firearms have been issued to civilians, with some individuals possessing multiple weapons.
In October, the Ministry had mandated that all firearms and ammunition issued to civilians be returned to authorities by November 7 for review. These firearms will only be reissued following a reassessment of the necessity for civilian possession.
