UPFA politicians, including several Parliamentarians, who are negotiating with the opposition for a possible crossover, have met at the residence of former President Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga.
It is learnt that the group will crossover to the opposition after making a special announcement to media, explaining the circumstances which led to their decision.
It has now come to the limelight that yhe group consists of District Leaders, some frontline UPFA Parliamentarians and several others who earlier crossed over to the government from the UNP.
They will be led by SLFP General Secretary and Health Minister Maithripala Sirisena who has now positioned himself as the common candidate of the opposition
Meanwhile, UPFA Gampaha District Parliamentarian Wasantha Senanayake joined the main opposition party yesterday (20)
Speaking at Sirikotha UNP Headquarters yesterday, Wasantha Senanayake said that he crossed over to the UNP to support the Common Candidate and that another group is to follow his path and join the main opposition party.
