The Commonwealth of Nations have extended its support towards a credible domestic inquiry into the alleged war crimes that took place in the latter stages of the war against the LTTE.
Commonwealth General Secretary Kamalesh Sharma made this statement in a release after his trip to sri Lanka.
President Maithripala Sirisena became the Chairman of the Commonwealth after his election victory as Sri Lanka's Head of State is to hold the office until the next commonwealth summit in Malta later this year.
Sharma discussed President Sirisena's duties as the Commonwealth Chairman and also discussed matters pertaining to the next Commonwealth Summit when he met the President.
He also commended several developments that took place after Sirisena came to power, such as the appointment of a new Chief Justice and appointing civilian governors for the North and East.
