JVP leader Anura Kumara Dissanayake said that the discussions on the 19th Amendment, which is set to curtail executive powers of the president and introduce the independent commissions, were on its final days.
Speaking to BBC Sandeshaya, he said that the draft will be submitted to party leaders in several days.
Dissanayake also said that it was the duty of all parties to pass the Amendment by early March.
He said that the next election is likely to elect a government in which one party has majority and therefore it was vital to control executive powers and empower independent institutions. The best chance to do it is through this parliament, he added.
Dissanayake said that the election is most likely to be held under the current electoral system.
He argued that the SLFP will not be able to win the next election, adding that despite having money and media, Mahinda Rajapaksa could not win the presidential election. The present SLFP has not got at least 20 percent of what Rajapaksa threw in for the election, he added.
