The Supreme Court today issued a temporary order directing the controller of Immigration and Emigration to prevent Front Line Socialist Party leader Premkumar Gunaratnam alias Noel Mudalige from deporting the country until February 13.
Filing a fundamental right petition before Supreme Court Gunaratnam stated irreparable loss and damage would be caused to him if he was not allowed to remain in Sri Lanka.
The case is to be taken up again coming Friday in order to consider interim injunction regarding his deportation.
He was questioned by the Department of Immigration and Emigration on the complaints received against him and on engaging in political activities while on a tourist visa.
Meanwhile Maduluwawe Sobhitha Thera, Convener of the Movement for a Just Society, has written two letters to the President and Prime Minister urging them to allow Gunaratnam to engage in political activities without hindrance.
