The Executive Committee and Central Commitee of the Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) will meet for a round of special meetings today (13) and tomorrow (14). Political sources said that the new board of officials of the Sri Lanka Freedom Party will be elected at the two meeting.
Speaking to media earlier today (13), SLFP General Secretary and former Minister of Petroleum Anura Priyadarshana Yapa said that the SLFP is expected to make some ‘crucial political decisions’ during the meeting tomorrow.
The SLFP General Secretary said that former Presidents Mahinda Rajapaksa and Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga have also been invited to the meeting.
Yapa added that the meeting will focus on the SLFP’s General Election campaign.
However, speaking to Asian Mirror, SLFP Parliamentarian W D J Seneviratne said that the Sri Lanka Freedom Party will not involve Basil Rajapaksa in the SLFP’s election campaign.
“Basil Rajapaksa was one of the reasons why former President Mahinda Rajapaksa lost the Presidential Election”, Seneviratne strongly asserted. Basil Rajapaksa, who was previously the Economic Development Minister of the government, has already stepped down from all his positions in the Sri Lanka Freedom Party.
