President Maithripala Sirisena today tightened his grip over the Sri Lanka Freedom Party by removing die-hard Rajapaksa supporters from top posts of the party.

At the Executive Committee of the Sri Lanka Freedom Party this evening, UPFA General Secretary Susil Premjayantha was appointed as the new National Organizer of the party. The position was previously held by former Economic Development Minister Basil Rajapaksa.

Minister Rajitha Senaratne whose name was also proposed by some as a potential candidate to the post of National Organizer was appointed as a Vice Chairman of the party.

Former Chief Minister of the North Western Provincial Council and Senior Minister S.B. Navinna was appointed as the new Treasurer of the party. He replaces former Minister Dullas Alahapperuma who is known to be a hardcore supporter of the former President.

Interestingly, the General Secretary post of the party, which was held by former Minister Anura Priyadarshana Yapa, remained unchanged.

The Executive Committee of the SLFP met at the " Apey Gama" premises in Battaramulla.
