The target of the Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna is to form a government by 2020 so that the workers and lower class gets power, its leader Anura Kumara Dissanayake told yesterday, local media reported.
Speaking at a seminar titled "Bala peraliya saha janatha abhiyoga" (Change of Power and people's challenges) in Galle, he said that it will be too early to take power in the next election in months and therefore the JVP has a long distance race to run until the election in 2020.
Catching the thieves alone would not do, Dissanayake said and added that a transformation of socio-economic body should take place to institute real change in society. This could be done by taking power through a broad front of workers, intellectuals, university lecturers, literary persons and others. Such a front would give power to the working class so that broad changes could be done in the country, he added.
The JVP leader had said earlier that it will hope to form a broad front in the next election and failing that it will contest alone.
