Tamil National Alliance has appointed a four member committee to take a decision on whether it should accept Ministerial portfolios in the Eastern Provincial Council.

UPFA held power in the Eastern Provincial Council before defections by some of its members during the presidential election period. TNA has 11 seats while Sri Lanka Muslim Congress has just 7 seats.

However, SLMC was given the Chief Ministerial post recently after weeks of speculation as to who will receive the post. SLMC invited TNA and UNP to join it in the government.

UNP has 4 seats in the Eastern Provincial Council which has a total membership of 37.
