Former President Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga, who ‘suddenly’ left the country on February 13, is expected to return soon, Asian Mirror reliably learns.
Our sources at the Katunayake International Airport said that the former President boarded a flight destined to London on February 13.
It is in the grapevine that at the SLFP special meeting which was held on the same day, certain requests of former President Kumaratunga were turned down by the Executive Committee of the Sri Lanka Freedom Party.
However, on February 14, the party's Executive Committee appointed former Presidents Kumaratunga and Rajapaksa as Senior Advisors to the party at a special meeting in 'Apey Gama'. The two former Presidents did not participate in the event saying that they had made prior arrangements.
Meanwhile, in a recent television interview, Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga remarked that she is not willing to work together with former President Mahinda Rajapaksa.
She added that she requested the SLFP Executive Committee to not grant her an equal position to that of Mahinda Rajapaksa within the Sri Lanka Freedom Party.
