Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) National Organizer Susil Premajayantha today (16) said that the 'Blue Brigade' will not be considered as the SLFP youth wing from here onwards.
Speaking to BBC Sandeshaya, he stated that SLFP did not have organizations like the 'Blue Brigade' in the past.
Premajayantha said that 'SLFP Youth Front' will act as the youth wing of the party.
"We had a SLFP Youth Organization, Women's Organization and other such entities in the past", Premajayantha added. He also stated that in the future, those institutions will act affiliated to the party.
The 'Blue Brigade' alias 'Nil Balakaya' which was lead by Hambantota District Parliamentarian Namal Rajapaksa acted as the youth wing of the Sri Lanka Freedom Party after Mahinda Rajapaksa's ascension to Presidency.
The Blue Brigade came under severe criticism from the opposition at the time as they claimed that members of the Blue Brigade were getting 'special' treatment due to the Rajapaksa family's influence.
However, upon the initiation of the organization, Namal Rajapaksa claimed that they were a group which rejected hate politics and supported the youth of the country.
