Acting Media Spokesperson of Sri Lanka Army Brigadier Jayanath Jayaweera told Asian Mirror that 15 Major Generals and three Brigadiers have been transferred with effect from yesterday.
These transfers were made with the approval of Army Commander Lieutenant General Daya Rathnayake and the respective officers assumed duties at their new postings yesterday.
After President Maithripala Sirisena became the Supreme Commander of the armed forces, three senior Brigadiers were made Major Generals and five other Brigadiers were promoted to temporary Major General.
The Army Commander met with the newly promoted officers yesterday morning at his office and congratulated them.
Senior officers, Brigadier K.W Edema, Brigadier M.H.P Mihindukulasuriya, Brigadier A.K.P Wickremasinghe, have accordingly been given confirmation to their ranks of Major General, effective from September 15, 2011, October 01, 2012 and May 24, 2013 respectively.
Similarly, Brigadier J.R Kulatunga, Brigadier D.D.U.K Hettiarachchi, Brigadier M.K.D Perera, Brigadier D.S.N.K Senadeera and Brigadier P.M.R Bandara have been promoted to the ranks of temporary Major General with effect from December 30, 2014.
