President Maithripala Sirisena arrived in Tirupati on a pilgrimage on Tuesday, Indian media reported.
Accompanied by his wife Jayanthi Sirisena, the President reached the temple city by a special flight from Delhi on Tuesday (17) evening.
He was accorded a ceremonial reception by Andhra Pradesh Minister for Environment and Forest Bojjala Gopalakrishna Reddy, Collector Siddharth Jain and Superintendent of Police (Tirupati Urban) Gopinath Jatti and Revenue Divisional Officer V. Veerabrahmaiah.
Sirisena and his entourage later left for Tirumala hills by road. He will offer prayers at the Lord Venkateswara temple during ‘Suprabhatham’ in the early hours of Wednesday.
Former President Mahinda Rajapaksa also visited the Lord Venkateswara temple at Tirupati to envoke blessings just after the Presidential Election was called in November last year.
