Sri Lankan physicist, academic and economist Professor Mohan Munasinghe stated that the nuclear agreement between Sri Lanka and India signed during President Maithripala Sirisena's visit to India, was more favorable to Sri Lanka.
Speaking to BBC Sandeshaya, he said that through this agreement Sri Lanka could take the knowledge on nuclear applications in many sectors including agriculture and medicine. This will enable Sri Lanka to use nuclear technologies in such applications safely, he added.
India only has a political gain through the agreement since it cements the Indo-Lanka ties and is advantageous to India regarding the power balance of the region and world.
Munasinghe, who was the senior adviser on power and energy to the Sri Lanka government from 1982 to 1987, was the Vice Chair of the UN Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC-AR4), that shared the 2007 Nobel Prize for Peace.
