Controller of Immigration and Emigration Nihal Ranasinghe yesterday said that the leader of the Frontline Socialist Party (FSP), Kumar Gunarathnam would be deported today.
The Fundamental Rights petition filed by Frontline Socialist party leader Kumar Gunaratnam, asking to prevent his arrest or deportation was rejected by the Supreme Court yesterday.
Giving a statement to a local news paper Ranasinghe further said that Gunarathnam had been told to come to the Department of Immigration and Emigration today (19) as he had violated the Immigration and Emigration regulations of the country by engaging in political activities while on tourist visa.
Meanwhile, the Frontline Socialist Party had Aldo told media that Gubaratnam had applied to obtain Sri Lankan citizenship and the Department was yet to respond to his application.
Tthe FSP Leader, who arrived in Sri Lanka prior to the presidential election is a resident of Australia. He was also a key member of the JVP during the 88.89 uprising.
