Former Army Chief of Staff Major General Krishantha de Silva has been appointed as new Army Commander by President Maithripala Sirisena.
He will take over his duties as the 21st Army Commander from 22th February, President's Media Unit announced on Friday.
Current Army Commander Lieutenant General Daya Rathnayaka who was appointed by Former President Mahinda Rajapaksa on August 2014, will be retiring from tomorrow (21)
De Silva was the Chief of Staff of the Army before Major General Prasad Samarasinghe took over his position in May, 2014.
Following Samarasinghe’s appointment, de Silva was appointed as the Deputy Ambassador in Russia with effect from 17 May, last year.
