BMICH stated that it will make sure that the entire amount of compensation due to Dr. Samitha Samanmalee is paid, despite the financial difficulties faced by the institution.

Giving a statement to a local newspaper BMICH Director General Mallika Karunarathne said that the matter will be discussed during the next meeting of the Board of Management of BMICH.

"At the moment, I am clueless as to how and when the compensation would be paid," she said.

The Director General further asserted that the funds would be collected by any possible means, although BMICH was not capable of paying the amount at the moment.

Dr. Samitha Samanmali sustained severe injuries in an accident on February 15, 2008 at the BMICH when she was organising the setting up of stalls for the medical exhibition MEDEX.

Considering her petition against the management of BMICH, the court ordered BMICH to pay Rs. 180 million to Dr. Samanmali as compensation.
