Uva Province Chief Minister Harin Fernando told Asian Mirror that he will compete in upcoming parliament election which is expected to be held in June.
“I discussed about it with the party leader and he agreed” Fernando said. He further said that he was planning to compete in the election from Badulla District.
Harin Fernando was a member of parliament before he resigned on August 5, 2014 to contest as the Chief Ministerial Candidate of the United National Party (UNP) for the Uva provincial council election.
He won the highest number of preferential votes in the election although UNP failed to defeat the UPFA. Fernando however, gained the support of the majority of the members in Uva Provincial council in January 2015 and was appointed as the Chief Minister of the province by the Governor.
