Party leaders of the constituent parties in United People’s Freedom Alliance are to meet over the weekend to resolve differences that has arisen within the alliance.
UPFA General Secretary Susil Premajayantha told media that the Executive Committee of the UPFA will also meet on that day, before the meeting of party leaders.
Meanwhile, Lanka Sama Samaja Party leader Prof. Tissa Vitharana stated that the UPFA should resolve its differences to assure a victory in the next election. He has requested the party Secretaries to call a meeting of party leaders to strengthen the alliance.
Differences within the UPFA have arisen with several parties in the alliance supporting the name of former President Mahinda Rajapaksa as the Prime Ministerial candidate in the next general election. Some SLFP members have also expressed their support to Rajapaksa.
Meanwhile, the suggestion to form a national government will also taken up to discussion in the meeting, reports said.
