Central Bank Governor Arjuna Mahendran has left for Singapore last night, amidst controversy on the Treasury bonds issue.
Mahendran is still a citizen of Singapore.
When contacted by ‘Asian Mirror’ a Central Bank spokesperson could not confirm the date of Mahendran’s return.
President Maithripala Sirisena yesterday decided to appoint a three member committee to investigate to probe into the 30-year Treasury bond issue after allegations were made against a company which was involved in this transaction.
It was alleged that this company has connections to the son-in-law of Mahendran.
Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna today called for the removal of Mahendran from his post until the investigations into the controversial Treasury bond issue was completed.
Arjuna Mahendran was appointed by President Maithripala Sirisena as the Governor of Central Bank of Sri Lanka on January 15, 2015.
