'SLFP Leaders Are Afraid' - Wimal Weerawansa

National Freedom Front leader Wimal Weerawansa said that Sri Lanka Freedom Party leaders are afraid of the return of former president Mahinda Rajapaksa to politics.

Speaking at a political talk show on 'Hiru TV' last evening, Weerawansa said that President Maithripala Sirisena, as SLFP leader, will not want to see Rajapaksa's return since Rajapaksa still has a large popular base.

Weerawansa argued that with the broken promises of 'good governance' government, Rajapaksa's popular base has increased even beyond the 5.8 million who voted for him.

On the contrary, Sirisena is a president with a very small popular base, Weerawansa agrued, saying that those who voted for Sirisena in the January presidential election actually voted for various reasons.

Weerawansa said UNP supporters, SLMC supporters and TNA supporters all voted for Sirisena because their parties told them to do so. Only a small group of SLFP supporters are the popular base Sirisena can call his own, he added.

Irrespective of SLFP decision on Rajapaksa, 'we will return with him', NFF leader insisted.
