Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) today (11) said that it will oppose constitutional amendments if they are carried out as emergency measures.
Opposition Leader Nimal Siripala de Silva made this remark addressing a press briefing earlier today.
Meanwhile, de Silva recently said that the SLFP was opposed to changing the executive presidency without implementing electorial reforms. He said both should be done at the same time.
The debate around electoral reform has already caused delay in the introduction of the 19th amendment. Senior SLFP and UNP leaders are expected to hold discussions on the matter over the weekend.
