Chief Minister of Northern Province C.V. Vigneswaran, on Saturday expressed his gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for meeting the people of Jaffna and said there was nothing more that he would want from an 'elder brother government'.
"This has been a very great occasion where he [Prime Minister Narendra Modi] had come and seen and also assured us we are with you, we will be with you. There is nothing further that we want from an elder brother government which is such a large country by our side. If they could give that assurance, we feel very much better than we did before he came. We thank him for that," he told the media in Jaffna.
"There is a personal relationship, which we were able to notice in him. He comes down to the ground level and moves around with people. It's an important occasion as there had been a perception that North Indians are not very interested in predicament of the people of North of Sri Lanka," he added.
Prime Minister Modi earlier in the day handed over homes built with the help of Indian assistance to the Tamils in Jaffna. He said that the houses are not just made of brick and stones but is an opportunity to share sorrows of the needy.
