Finance Minister Ravi Karunanayake recently stated that former Defence Secretary Gotabaya Rajapaksa has still not accepted his challenge to declare assets.
On February 12, Karunanayake challenged Rajapaksa to declare his assets after the latter had given a statement to a local newspaper questioning the UNP MP’s purchase of certain properties.
“We challenged him to declare his assets. It has been 3 weeks now. Still no word (from him)” Karunanayake said at a recent event in Colombo.
Referring to allegations made by Rajapaksa, the minister asked the former Defence Secretary not to measure other people from his level. Karunanayake also added that he is considering taking legal action against the allegations leveled at him.
Karunanayake further said that the new government will not allow the current opposition to face the same difficulties that they had to face while in the opposition.
