National Freedom Front leader Wimal Weerawansa reportedly did not attend the UPFA Central Working Committee meeting yesterday.
The meeting was held with the participation of party leaders of the UPFA at Sri Lanka Foundation Institute.
Until recently, NFF was considered part of the UPFA, although there is no formal, signed agreement between NFF and UPFA or NFF and SLFP.
In a recent TV interview, opposition leader Nimal Siripala de Silva said that NFF is not a partner in the UPFA. The NFF only contests elections under the UPFA ticket, de Silva added.
Weerawansa is a staunch supporter of former president Mahinda Rajapaksa and a strong critic of the current government of President Maithripala Sirisena.
Sirisena was appointed UPFA Chairman at the Central Working Committee meeting last evening.
