Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe is due to give a special statement today in parliament on the Treasury bond issue.
The controversy began after the Central Bank Governor Arjuna Mahendran was accused of being involved in insider dealings during the recent Treasury bonds issue by the Central Bank. It was said that a company with connections to his son-in-law profited from the deal.
Opposition Leader Nimal Siripala de Silva said yesterday that he will be demanding a debate in parliament over the controversial incident. Meanwhile, Jathika Hela Urumaya also joined in asking for the temporary removal of Mahendran until inquiries into the incident are complete.
Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna had earlier called for the removal of Mahendran pending inquiries.
Meanwhile, Nimal Siripala de silva yesterday said that the committee appointed to investigate the matter is unacceptable as it has connections to the United National Party.
