National Executive Council yesterday decided to present the Right to Information Bill to parliament in early April.
Speaking to BBC Sandeshaya yesterday, JVP leader Anura Kumara Dissanayake said that NEC decided to table the 19th Amendment to the Constitution in parliament on March 24.
Meanwhile, it was also decided to discuss on the ethical code of conduct for people’s representatives before it is agreed upon in the NEC. Thereafter it will be introduced to the parliament, Dissanayake stated.
The Right to Information (RIT) Bill and the Ethical Code of Conduct were supposed to be introduced several weeks before. According to the 100 Days Program of the government, the ethical code was to be introduced on February 2. Meanwhile, the RIT Bill was to be introduced on February 20. It was supposed to be debated in parliament before it is passed. According to the 100 Days Program, it was to be passed on March 20.
