Professor Dinesh K Gunasekara yesterday (17) filed a complaint against Former Minister Mervyn Silva at the Police Headquarters.
Professor Gunasekara told local media that he filed the complaint against Mervyn Siva for publicly tying-up a Samurdhi Officer to a tree.
“That was one of the inhumane acts carried out by a person holding a public office. By doing so Silva violated the Criminal Code and Sri Lanka’s constitution because only a police or a judicial officer can arrest or detain a citizen of the country” Prof. Gunasekara told media.
He further asserted that he decided to lodge the criminal complaint because no action had been taken against the former minister by the police or any other relevant authority.
“If the police won’t investigate my complaint I would not hesitate to take legal action against Mervyn Silva” he stressed.
Mervyn Silva tied a Samurdhi officer to a mango tree over his failure to attend a dengue prevention program in Kelaniya in 2010.
