President Maithripala Sirisena stated that he could understand the amount of conspiracies within the Sri Lanka Freedom Party.

Speaking this morning at the opening of a new office for the Youth Front of the party, he said that even the plot to assassinate former Prime Minister S.W.R.D. Bandaranaike was hatched from within the SLFP.

Bandaranaike was the founding leader of SLFP, which he led from 1951 until his assassination in 1959. He led the SLFP-led Mahajana Eksath Peramuna alliance to victory in the 1956 General Election.

The new office of the Youth Front of SLFP was opened at party headquarters by the president. He paid floral tribute to SWRD Bandaranaike at the beginning of the event. Former president Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga and several other leaders of the party took part in the event.
