Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna stated on Tuesday (24) that the party will take a final decision on whether it should stay in the National Executive Council after discussing the matter with civil society organizations which helped defeat the Mahinda Rajapaksa regime.
In a media statement, the party reiterated that the forming of a national government was a betrayal of the mandate given to Maithripala Sirisena. This government is in reality a coalition between UNP and SLFP, the statement also said.
JVP also stated that it was planning to raise the issue at the NEC meeting scheduled to be held on this morning. However, the meeting was called off suddenly, JVP said.
The media release also said that the government is now protecting those who are accused of corruption. In this backdrop, the “good governance” government cannot be trusted upon to take action against wrongdoers, it stated further.
