Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) General Secretary Anura Priyadarshana Yapa Wednesday (25) said that president Sirisena would dissolve the parliament and call for an election within this year, after the 19th Amendment is passed and electoral system is reformed.
Speaking to media on, he said that it will take three months to approve the 19th Amendments and implement electoral reforms, local media reported.
“SLFP MPs accepted ministerial portfolios to support these changes,” he said and added that SLFP supports increasing the number of seats to 250, to be fair to smaller and minority parties.
He further stressed that reforming electoral reform and constitutional amendments must be completed within the time period of the national government which was recently formed. No one can be sure of the composition of the parliament after the next election, he explained.
