Former Minister of Economic Development Basil Rajapaksa told local media that he will return to Sri Lanka soon and assist in the investigations into allegations against him.
Rajapaksa left the country for the United States on January 11, soon after the defeat of his brother Mahinda Rajapaksa at the Presidential Election on January 8.
The former minister has been summoned to the Financial Fraud Investigations Division on the directive of Kaduwela Magistrate Courts.
Meanwhile a tense situation was reported in Medamulana on Thursday when police had visited a house in the area with a court order for recording a statement from Basil Rajapaksa.
The police spokesperson ASP Ruwan Gunasekara told media that a police officer had arrived at the Medamulana address in Basil Rajapaksa’s National Identity Card and Passport.
Since the house was unoccupied at the time, the police officer had attempted to paste the court order on the door of the residence. However, a group had objected claiming that the owner of the house was not Basil Rajapaksa.
