Colombo Magistrate Court on Friday (27) turned down Malaka Silva’s appeal on softening his bail conditions.
Malaka Silva’s counsel highlighted that banning Silva from entering nightclubs was a violation of his fundamental rights and said that bail conditions must be softened.
Former minister Mervyn Silva’s son, Malaka Silva, was hospitalized in the wee hours of November 1, 2014, after being allegedly assaulted in a night club in Bambalapitiya. Later on the day, police arrested him over the incident.
Silva was released on bail on November 28, 2014, by Colombo Magistrate Courts. The court also prohibited Malaka Silva from entering any nightclubs for the duration of the case where Silva was charged with assaulting a foreign couple concluded.
