Sri Lanka Freedom Party will not have a designated Prime Ministerial candidate in the forthcoming general election, SLFP Treasurer S.B. Nawinne said.
The newly appointed Minister of Labour stated this recently after assuming duties in his ministry. Nawinne added that the party had to win the election before it can decide on a Prime Minister. Therefore, all party members should jointly work for the victory of the party in the general election, he said.
After the election, a Prime Minister can be selected, Nawinne said. The person who has the support of the majority of the party will then be appointed as Prime Minister, he explained further.
Meanwhile, at a recent meeting, Minister Dr. Sarath Amunugama said that PM Ranil Wickremesinghe was dreaming of seeing the division of the SLFP. The party should not let that happen, he said.
