Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe stated that an interim committee was appointed to Sri Lanka Cricket to investigate allegations of financial fraud.
He made this revelation at the event to launch free Wi-Fi services across 26 public locations around the country. The main event was held this morning at Fort Railway Station.
The 9 member Interim Committee is to be headed by former Sri Lanka cricketer Sidath Wittimuny. The election for the next Cricket Board is scheduled for April 30.
Wickremesinghe said that Sri Lanka needs to clean Cricket since there are serious allegations of financial fraud.
He added that Sri Lanka Cricket has not paid Rs 500 million due to the State Engineering Corporation. Furthermore, there were issues pertaining to the awarding of telecast rights to CSN. These cannot be investigated with the current board in power, Wickremesinghe said.
