Colombo Magistrate Courts released UPFA MP Sajin de Vass Gunawardena on two sureties of Rs 1 million each when the case filed against him by the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption was taken up this morning.
Colombo Magistrate also prohibited Sajin de Vass Gunawardena from leaving the country.
Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption filed a lawsuit on March 20 at Colombo Magistrate Courts against UPFA MP Sajin de Vass Gunawardena on charges of withholding details of his assets.
The Voice against Corruption Organization headed by JVP Provincial Councilor Wasantha Samarasinghe filed a complaint against MP Sajin de Vass Gunawardena in January. Samarasinghe alleged that the former Minister has purchased aircrafts under a private company called Cosmos Aviation Service. He also stated that Sajin de Vass Gunawardena has obtained US $ one million from a local private bank keeping these aircrafts as collateral and sent the money to the United States. Sajin de Vass Gunawardena was questioned by the Commission on several occasions before it decided to go to courts.
The court case was adjourned until September 1.
