The Inter University Student Federation started a protest march from Sri Jayawardenapura University to Colombo against the government’s failure to respond to its call to resolve issues in education.
IUSF organized the protest urging the government to respond to several demands including three principle demands. They are the abolition of the circular to legalize charging fees in schools, abolition of "Malambe, Kotelawela and other degree shops” and providing solutions for the problems in Open University.
For the first time, levying charges has recently become legalized in the country’s schools, IUSF stated.
Releasing a media statement on Monday (30), IUSF said that the Mahapola scholarship allowance has been brought down to Rs. 2,500 as per a UGC letter dated March 23.
