Air Chief Marshal Donald Perera Queried Over MiG Deal

A statement is currently being recorded from Air Chief Marshal Donald Perera by the Financial Fraud Investigation Division over the MiG aircraft transaction.

The Police Financial Fraud Investigation Division recently commenced a fresh probe into the alleged financial misappropriations that had been committed in the purchase of four MiG airplanes from Ukraine in 2006.

Police recently recorded a statement from former Chief of Defence Staff Air Chief Marshal Roshan Goonetileke.

Meanwhile, on March 6 this year, former Defence Secretary Goyabaya Rajapaksa and The Sunday Leader newspaper agreed to settle a long running court case over a newspaper article concerning the purchase of the four MiG-27 aircrafts concerned.

However, within days of the settlement, Police announced that they will launch a separate probe into the deal.

Air Chief Marshal Donald Perera was Commander of the Sri Lanka Air Force from 2002 to 2006 and Chief of the Defence Staff from 2006 to 2009.
