A special meeting of party leader with regard to the 19th Amendment is being held with the patronage of Speaker Chamal Rajapaksa at the parliament complex.
The meeting is expected to take a final decision on the dates for the debate on the 19th Amendment. Recently, National Executive Council decided to hold the debate over the 19th Amendment on April 9th and 10th. However, it was reported that SLFP had requested it to be postponed.
The Attorney General made submissions to the Supreme Court on Monday on the 19th Amendment to the constitution. Meanwhile, Supreme Court finished the hearing petitions filed against the 19th Amendment. It is expected to send its recommendations to the Speaker.
There were 19 petitions on the 19th Amendment. They were heard before a panel of Supreme Court judges headed by Chief Justice K. Sri Pavan.
