TNA leader R Sampanthan stated that his party should be given the opposition leader’s position after SLFP accepted ministerial portfolios.
In an interview with BBC Sandeshaya on Monday (06) he stated that Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) was also a part of the government now because its MPs took minister portfolios.
When asked if TNA was not a part of the government because it supported Preaident Sirisena during the presidential election, Sampanthan told that the logic was invalid.
"We didn't take minister portfolios. Therefore no one can call us a part of the government." the parliamentarian said.
Meanwhile, Cabinet Spokesperson Dr. Rajitha Senaratne also said that either the TNA or the JVP is entitled to the post. No one in the UPFA can be opposition leader, he said.
Sampanthan also spoke about international interferences in local issues. If problems faced by Tamil community can be solved within the country there is no need to seek help from the international community, he said.
