A meeting to mark 55 years of parliamentary politics of former Prime Minister Ratnasiri Wickramanayaka was postponed, UPFA MP Vidura Wickramanayaka told Asian Mirror.
The meeting was scheduled to be held on April 10 at Horana. Vidura Wickramanayake said that SLFP leaders including President Maithripala Sirisena and former presidents Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga and Mahinda Rajapaksa were invited for the occasion.
Vidura Wickramanayaka stated that the event was postponed since the parliament was due to debate the 19th Amendment to the Constitution on April 10. The National Executive Council earlier took a decision to hold the parliamentary vote on the 19th Amendment on April 10. However, the Supreme Court sent its report on the amendment to the Speaker on Monday (6).
Ratnasiri Wickramanayaka, father of vidura Wickramanayaka, first entered parliament from Horana Electorate in March 1960. A commemorative event to mark the 55th year of his parliamentary politics was held in March at the Parliamentary Complex.
