President Maithripala Sirisena stated that the 19th Amendment will be presented to the Parliament for approval on April 20. He further stated that once it is approved, the parliament will be dissolved.
He made this announcement a short while ago at an event in Polonnaruwa District.
This development comes hours after the Speaker had informed the parliament of the Supreme Court decision on the 19th Amendment.
The Supreme Court said that certain clauses of the amendment need a referendum for the approval. Following this announcement, Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe told parliament that the relevant clauses would be removed from the amendment.
