The remains of the Asgiriya Chapter Chief Prelate of Shyamopali Great Nikaya late Udugama Sri Buddharakkitha Thera were kept for public respect at the Asgiri Temple in Kandy.

Large crowds are paying their last respect to the remains of the late Maha Nayaka Thera.

The special motorcade carrying the sacred remains of the late Nayaka Thera left from a Colombo private funeral parlor in the morning.

Government declared Sunday, April 12th, as a Day of Mourning for the late Chief Prelate of the Asgiriya Chapter of the Shyamopali Nikaya, Most Venerable Udugama Sri Buddharakkitha Thera.

Buddharakkitha Thera passed away Tuesday morning the Mount Elizabeth Hospital in Singapore.

The cremation of the Most Venerable Udugama Sri Buddharakkitha Maha Nayaka Thera will take place at the Police Grounds in Kandy at 2pm on Sunday (12) with full state patronage.
