Former President Chandrika Kumaratunga was hooted and jeered by a section of the crowd at the meeting of Kurunegala District SLFP ‘Balamandalaya’ on Thursday at Maliyadewa Girls’ School, Kurunegala, auditorium.
The meeting was held under the chairmanship of President Maithripala Sirisena. The crowd began hooting when ex-president Kumaratunga was invited to light the traditional oil lamp to inaugurate the meeting.
When she came out to leave after the meeting several SLFP Provincial Council Members and Pradeshiya Sabha Members criticized her again. They demanded her to stop criticizing former president Mahinda Rajapaksa and advised her to “mind your own business.”
However, the former President who did not show any response to the allegations was taken away from the scene by her security staff.
Kurunegala District Parliamentarians Salinda Dissanayake, T.B.Ekanayake and Johnston Fernando and several provincial council members and Pradeshiya Sabha members in the district were present at the occasion.
