Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery and Corruption on Thursday grilled Central Bank Governor Arjuna Mahendran for six hours.
He arrived at the Commission at 9.30am and was questioned until around 3.30pm.
Arjuna Mahendran was alleged to have been involved in an insider dealing during the issue of Treasury bonds on Februaru 27 this year. It is alleged that a company connected to his son-in-law profited in the deal.
President Maithripala Sirisena ordered the President’s secretary to appoint a three-member committee to investigate into this issue.
Later Prime Minister Ranil Wickremasinghe informed parliament that Central Bank Governor Arjuna Mahendran was on leave until the Bond Issue investigations are concluded.
Recently, the three member committee finished its preliminary inquiries. It was reported that the committee recommended that the incident ‘warrants an investigation.'
