All parties agreed to debate on Supreme Court approved sections of the 19th Amendment in Parliament on April 21 and 22. This decision was taken at a special all party conference held this morning.
The meeting was held at the Presidential Secretariat with the participation of President Maithripala Sirisena and Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe. The debate was earlier planned to be held on April 20 and 21.
Meanwhile, party leaders of the parliament are to meet on Monday at the parliamentary complex to discuss on the debate. A discussion was held on Friday but it ended without any agreement.
The opposition members raised the issue of the discrepancy between the versions of the 19th Amendment that was presented to the Supreme Court and parliament. Meanwhile, Sri Lanka Freedom Party continuously pushed for simultaneous electoral reforms.
