Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption has summoned former president Mahinda Rajapaksa and former defense secretary Gotabaya Rajapaksa to record statements.
Mahinda Rajapaksa is due to appear at the commission on April 24. Political sources said that he was summoned regarding the decision to give a ministerial post to Tissa Attanayake during election time. Furthermore, he is also to be questioned on media statements he had made, reports said.
Rajapaksa made several media statements over the last four months since losing power. He slammed the government in each of these, totally rejecting allegations of financial fraud against his government. His latest statement was released on Sunday, in which he refuted allegations on maintaining secret foreign accounts.
Meanwhile, Gotabaya Rajapaksa is to be questioned over the controversy regarding Avant-Garde Security Services and Rakna Araksha Lanka companies.
