MPs Supporting Rajapaksa Disrupt Parliamentary Session (Photos)

A group of opposition parliamentarians started a protest inside the parliamentary chamber a short while ago, causing the parliament to be adjourned.

These MPs expressed their displeasure at the Bribery Commission’s decision to summon former president Mahinda Rajapaksa and former defense secretary Gotabaya Rajapaksa.

UPFA Anuradhapura District MP Shehan Semasinghe described it as a “protest requesting democracy” on his Twitter page.

Meanwhile, Deputy Minister of Policy Planning and Economic Affairs Dr. Harsha de Silva slammed the MPs for disrupting the parliamentary session. “Can they continue to be above the law? What do you think?” he asked on his Facebook page.

Harsha de Silva said that Bandula Gunawardena was leading the group of MPs who sat on the floor of the Parliament Chamber. More than 20 MPs joined the protest.
